Capt - Kiku is cutting her some slack, she perfectly understands where Galina is coming from :D actually this wasnt suppose to post yet. BUT I guess I set the time wrong - good for you guys! we shall see about a apology :D
I hope the Captain can get through to her, pull her out of her funk. I'm kind of doubtful that whatever the good Captain has to say will REACH Galina, right now. Down the road though, it might break through. Guess we will have to wait and see. :-)
I'm doubtful of that, Cat. I think they can do things that we can only DREAM about... You know, like create hybrid lifeforms, save people from dying after being exposed to vacuum, you know... EASY stuff. :-D
I can't see them not having figured out how to fix a spinal problem, at least where the spine is all there. It is too common and too debilitating for them not to have spent time figuring out.
I will admit, Galina is probably a CHALLENGE, because she is neither fish nor fowl. :-) However, I'm sure they can get specialist that can fix her (though they may have to come from a LONG way away). :-)
Glad to see Galina showing some moxie. She's a sweet kid and there's nothing wrong with that, but sometimes you have you have to stand up and be counted. She might want to work a little on figuring out WHEN to do it, though. In this case, I don't blame her. I doubt Captain Kiku does either but Galina should be careful not to raise her ire too much. I get the feeling a dressing down by the Captain would not be something she'd enjoy.
Kiku could dress her down.. but shes holding back because she understands Gali's situation SUCKS! and Kiku is one of those "quiet" types who are far more scary.
Centcomm, As you know I occasionally post an opinion about 'What if? so here goes. Galina is new everything (technological life) as far as this time line is concerned.
Some will call her an It and others a Thing but not Human enough to be thought of as more than a curiosity or even a bad joke.
What if they take into consideration how much of her body is made of Human tissue and if more than Mechanical then could be considered human with cybernetic implants.
Then Galina would be a She and not an It or Thing!
This simple fact would guarantee her as having Human rights and protection and not property!
Any time a statist legal process is involved, you're in for a world of hurt, even if eventually successful.
And any 'simple' rule of thumb is not really simple. By "if more than" you might mean greater than 50% by volume, by weight, or by value.
By volume is simple, but very irrelevant. By weight is simpler, but even more irrelevant (tungsten replacement bones might make me more than 50% artificial by weight but not less human than magnesium bone replacements).
By value is very tricky, but much better. A small computer brain in an otherwise total human is not a human any longer, though a really good computer in there could be a person controlling the rest of the formerly human body.
Actually Galina is totally atatomicly correct. the ONLY thing shes missing is Ovarys and a replacement for those is there for hormonal control. she doesnt have periods, or is she able to um lactate. they areas are also lined with nerve endings. again Kotko was farsighted enough to know that she would need to be a NORMAL healthy woman. and be able to enjoy as much as he possably can make possable. again the diffrence being cloned human tissue from the "original" was used to generate everything - unlike the serilized and clipped DNA from "modern" andriods like Connie.
However due to advances - Connie has better sense of smell and taste than Galina has, gali has a few other drawbacks as well..
Her 'Father' built her to be a copy of his daughter. Only goes to reasonable belief he would have made her able to experience most feelings and sensations as a human female. She does have human organic tissue. What (umm) internal organs he made is up to Centcomm to determine as canon.
her heart is artifical, her lungs are real - stomach, upper and lower GI track, larinx and inner mouth and tounge are all real along with her liver, and glandular system. her vocal cords are artifical this was done so she can emulate ANY sound. ( she doesnt know this. ) But shes a perfect mimic however it wont fool a voice check.
Her skin is a layer cake of artifical and real skin ..
and i have no wish to be crude. but without being told he proably wouldnt notice a diffrence in her. IF they did anything like that.
Well if she is HONEST, that might make a dent in Galina's depression. Not following the formula responses might get Galina to actually LISTEN, not just hear the words.
The Captain seems to be a pretty cool customer, Cat. I'm not sure THREATENING her works to motivate her.
I think the conversation came out that way to make sure she realized how serious the situation was, not that she really needed it. She was the one that started the conversation after all.
Having bitterness is okay, but generally, it's a very bad idea to take said bitterness out on someone else, as Galina is doing right now. Unless they explicitly say that it's okay, generally, all you're doing is perhaps instilling some bitterness in them, which can make things worse. :P
Poor Galina, though - I hope Captain Kiku will give her some slack...
...and actually apologizes to her...
*hugs Galina*
[And more proof.]
I really appreceate that, she is adorable isnt she :D
I hope the Captain can get through to her, pull her out of her funk. I'm kind of doubtful that whatever the good Captain has to say will REACH Galina, right now. Down the road though, it might break through. Guess we will have to wait and see. :-)
[For starters she needs to check all those 'pots' she's got on her 'back burners' and see which ones need an urgent stirring!]
Seems like she should start building her posse pretty soon.
*(It's possible they are not going to be able to repair her spine.)
I can't see them not having figured out how to fix a spinal problem, at least where the spine is all there. It is too common and too debilitating for them not to have spent time figuring out.

What?!? You said the Captain could dress her down? :-D
Or the contrast might be bad for us beyond the 4th wall and the squiggle might not be showing for us
None of them record audio or video of the room.

Try this for a diversity of opinion.
actually Galina's "legal" status will be explained in upcoming pages..
any time law is involved things rapidly get .. complicated..
And any 'simple' rule of thumb is not really simple. By "if more than" you might mean greater than 50% by volume, by weight, or by value.

She's ... something else.
And techinically, they might even be right.
That doesn't exclude her from being a person though.
However due to advances - Connie has better sense of smell and taste than Galina has, gali has a few other drawbacks as well..

that.. gave me wierd images...
And I for one thank her for it. :-)
I truly apologize.
