This guy isn't going to be a mirror of Lt. Hiram Coffey in The Abyss (1989), is he? You know, the SEAL leader who develops High Pressure Nervous Syndrome and becomes insanely paranoid, interpreting every action the aliens take as hostile and determined to nuke them, even killing the crew if they get in his way?
Well, the latter may be understandable. He's military and in charge of military options. So if he concludes they're a threat, he will do "whatever is necessary" to complete his objectives.
Q: Was Galina created fully grown, or did she grow a bit taller in the two years since her awareness began? Will she gain any inches in the years to come?
As I recall, didn't someone say that her bones are metal or metal-plated? If so, I don't see how she could grow taller. That is, unless she has nanites for growth and repair. (Gali's appearance fits her "apparent age" right now. But if she can't grow, she'll be considered short and "young", even as Jet grows taller and older. Just saying...)
Galina's Skeleton can not increase in side nor can she "grow" She can grow her hair.. and nails. as those are a synthetic skin bonded to actual living tissue .. most of her skin is like that So that she has the same ( as much as possable ) sensations as a normal human - But she will look the same age.. forever.. Unless she has surgery or serious alterations done to her.
Those "New Rock" Reactor boots with chains looked interesting. (Rock? Don't they mean "Heavy Metal"? -_^) But then I saw their 280-S1 Itali boots with what appears to be multiple rows of 4 cm long metal spikes all the way around. o_O
Those might be a bit too punk for Gali, though. I doubt it'd be in Gali's favor to wear anything that might be considered a weapon. Might be easy to scrape or poke holes in something while walking, too.
I think LCDR Data said it best:
My legs are exactly 87.2 centimeters in length… My operations depends on specifications that do not change. I will never know the experience of growing up or tripping over my own feet… I would gladly accept the requirement of bedtime to know what it is like to be a child.

I wasn't saying he will definitely be a bad guy. Though, the fact that he's part of the Am-Com military doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence, considering AmCom's military and political activity lately...
...Colonel Taylor... Am-Com... 3C... Cent-Comm...
Wait! Is he an ancestor of the Helios Taylor family line?!
MIlitary personell aer often some of the most loyal and good people you could ever meet , the thing people forget is that they ARE people behind the job .. and often that job is boring. mindless or just plain dangerous. People tend to get a little quirky after all that ..
I actually like the Colonel, he doesn't give a shit about whether you're different, so long as you do you part.
He keeps things simple, and doesn't take any bs.
At least that's the stereotypical starting point for him to grow from. ;p
So far, he seems very professional. Mission first. That's a good sign. I'm hoping he proves to be like Colonel Jack O'Neill (as played by MacGuyver) :D
(I'm already hearing his lines in Richard Dean Anderson's voice :D )
Having been on both sides, I can say with confidence that the rigidity of the military, vs. the "we don't like responsibility, it costs money" attitude of many civilian middle managers, is an explosive cocktail.
Meanwhile, the engineers on both sides have no such hangups and are probably working on making a distilling plant in the back of your garage, at that very moment. :D
... and no ... you can't stop them no matter what you do.
If they really get serious, that distilling plant *will* exist!
Those are also the guys that make up a good chunk of Mr. Blacks ... almost legal goods.
"Probably" working on making a distilling plant? They must be incredibly repressed engineers.
Mr. Black is an alumnus of the University of Missouri, Rolla. I have heard STORIES about engineers in quantity. One such story involved the temporary appropriation of a three-story fractionating column from a chem lab and its repurposing into a three-story BEER BONG.
Yes, "probably" is the correct word, because they might have gone and worked on something else instead !
... like, say a 700 meter underground tunnel to the local strip bar. (true story)
... or making a serious attempt to make a flying artillery piece, based off of an old M102 howitzer that had it's wheels damaged by an IED attack, using oversized kites. (also a true story)
... attempting to move an old mosque with explosives (that one was luckily stopped before it came to fruition)
Frankly, if you're the commander of several engineer groups, from mutiple nations and with a few civilians mixed in, you will be praying that all they do is a distillery. :D
As a Tiger myself there is a story that University of Missouri - Columbia is not included on the list of party schools. Supposedly there was a note at the bottom of the list that said: The University of Missouri - Columbia, was not included on this list. The professionals should not be ranked with the amateurs. ;-D
I would say that he does have a problem with her--she is immature. In combat & near-combat situations, there is no time for discussion. In combat ops, you need to know what your element is doing without taking time to vocalize at all. That is really, REALLY hard to achieve with immature civilians. He looks to me like he is attempting to set ground rules that will at least get him immediate compliance when it really matters.
Which can look really abrasive to a civilian mindset.
Heck, he's modded enough that he might almost belong to the same species as her. :D
More importantly, with so many mods, he must have had some time to reflect a lot on what makes him "him" and "not him" - Now all he has to do is apply the same line of thought to Galina, and it'll take but a few moments to categorize her as "person", and frankly that's all he need.
One thing I want to make clear - Myself personally and Rose have nothing but respect for our Armed forces. At this point in time there are soo many factors they are just caught in the middle like everyone else.
Yup! He really doesn't need more reason than that, does he? ^_^
Though, I suppose being able to see in the dark and such is a nice side effect for his line of work. ;)
For all we know, though, his eyes might have been damaged at some point. Perhaps even the same incident which cost him his right arm. Or maybe it was voluntary?
The reason behind getting prosthetic eyes don't really matter (upgrade? replacement?) in as much as when he had the catalog, he choose the ones that had the cool glow.
I've always had a mild dislike for people who use the term 110% and its many variants. By definition you can only give 100%, and to seek any more is asking for mechanical or system failure. To have a leader who openly requests it indicates an untrustworthy and unreliable individual.
I once had the "pep talk" where my ex-boss told me that I had to give my 110% and all that, so we had a quick look at the productivity statistics of the department, and I was at index 132 compaired to the mean average.
I was only too happy to slow down a bit !
Oddly enough, he was not happy about that. :)

My stompy boots adds at least an inch of awesome to me when I wear them ! :)
Like so !
They make you straighten up and be more spunky !
which adds +1 inch of awesomeness to any cute girl.
*sage nod*
Comes with chains too.

The huge spikes kinda go too far, and starts loosing attitude.
Stompy boots are the Rat-Rods of the shoe world.
They are all about attitude and no common sense, as these guys explain it.

Guys like him like to know everything they need to accomplish the mission.
They are used to being left out in the cold without proper knowledge or support. Sure, there are jerks but most of them are good folk.

I am sure Galina will do 250 per cent (of his counting - of Galina's that would be 100 per cent)
Well, military and civilians clashing together...
*hugs Galina*

... more playmates for Galina perhaps ?

Non-fucking jackass: It is hyperbole employed for the sake of encouragement.
Fucking jackass: It is an indicator of an untrustworthy, unreliable, unreasonable martinet who I'd like to beat with a chair leg.
I've had a couple bosses who seriously deserved the chair-leg approach. Hey, Cent? "Tiller". /duck and cover

And the I had some time off as well.
And a vacation.
