My guess is they don't know what part of the brain is being agitated so using a broad spectrum pain killer. If they did a scan might find what part is being disturbed.
Centcomm 29th Jul 2014, 8:33 AM edit delete reply

thats true.. they are
Tokyo Rose 30th Jul 2014, 6:40 PM edit delete reply

Scans have been done on many people since the phenomenon began, but there's no clear pattern. All they can do is manage symptoms with painkillers or sedatives.
cattservant 29th Jul 2014, 12:16 AM edit delete reply

I fear they shall arrive with everybody comatose except Galina, Avi, Edict and the ship's expert systems.
Stormwind13 29th Jul 2014, 12:30 AM edit delete reply

I fear they will arrive with no atmosphere in part of the ship and several mummified bodies, cat. From where someone dumped the atmosphere without suiting up. :-7
Centcomm 29th Jul 2014, 8:34 AM edit delete reply

At Stormwind ewww that's a nasty way to die.. but quick.
Centcomm 29th Jul 2014, 8:34 AM edit delete reply

Avi, cat. Definitely Avi. :-D

Does everyone else on board have mechanically enhanced brain systems? I was of the impression you needed a bio-electronic interface for the broadcast waves to be effecting you. You'd think that would have been considered when the mission was started.
Centcomm 29th Jul 2014, 8:35 AM edit delete reply

Its more like the more cyberware someone has the worse it effects you .. the next few pages cover this.
mjkj 29th Jul 2014, 5:11 AM edit delete reply

poor Gali looks so sad in that last panel

*hugs and comforts her*

Sheela 29th Jul 2014, 8:22 AM edit delete reply

Her nurturing instincts are kicking in in overdrive - She has a whole spaceship full of babies to fuss over.
Centcomm 29th Jul 2014, 8:36 AM edit delete reply

hehe - nice one :D
Centcomm 29th Jul 2014, 8:36 AM edit delete reply

I know right.. although I was going for helpless irritation.

I was thinking on this, don't you think there would be a annonimazation protocol they could leverage? Seems to me that anything non-standard enough would require significant clearance that even the medical bots on hand might not have. rather than requiring expensive hardware to go back to base to be seen by very specific highly classified and protected bots doesn't it make more sense to instead have a method of
1 scan, diagnose
2 make drugs / prescriptions required
3 note course of actions to take
4 generate unique key signifying that, I doc bot #1, made this course of action to take
5a perhaps some method of sending once, encrypting locally with sufficient safeguards (say disconnect the storage so you can't access or reconnect it) and decrypting at a location of sufficient security clearance. probably with very touchy self destruct at the sign of attempted break in.
5b delete all records save what to do

Now you have a bot with medicine in hand with no knowledge of how it decided that was the course of action to take nor specifically what the medicine is with a message from itself in the past indicating it did indeed made said medication, these are the warning signs which will require a re-scan etc. You have no additional risk of letting a hackable entity do medicine, you merely have a "policy" in place on how to appropriately secure information above a given medical bots security clearance while still allow it to function as a medical bot.

Thats a really cool idea however Avi Galina's Old Auto doc is also a Kotko design. and hes just as suspicious of anyone tampering with his ability to do his job. ( think bones from Star Trek with a Russian accent ) And Avi also truly holds the medical credo as his watch words..
Stormwind13 29th Jul 2014, 5:13 PM edit delete reply

The Colonel there makes me think of Alicia DeVries... And how they had her cybernetics set-up, someone. :-)

Military can be a little bit paranoid (even with people out to get them :-D).
Sheela 29th Jul 2014, 9:33 PM edit delete reply

Offcourse, limiting the doctors, often means that your soldiers suddenly may stand without medical aid, something that Alicia DeVries did have as a problem - Thus it's probably not somethin that the brass would be very happy about in general.

Better to allow the doctor a few more liberties and then make sure hs sticks to his word.

Which, curiously, Cousin Avi would probably feel fine with.
Stormwind13 30th Jul 2014, 6:39 PM edit delete reply

True Sheela; however, in Drop Commandos cases they didn't want their technology to fall into anyone else's hands. So it was an acceptable trade-off, in their minds.
DizzasterJuice 29th Jul 2014, 2:24 PM edit delete reply

Someone is cranky! They're going to end up restraining everyone when they closer.
Stormwind13 29th Jul 2014, 5:19 PM edit delete reply

No Dizzaster... They are going to need bodybags... I mean, if you are strapped down and Colonel Taylor loses it... You would have NO chance. Most of the people wouldn't stand a good chance against him in a straight up fight, but unable to even try to fight back... :-p

Since Galina is immune to the effects she wouldn't be locked up, but she is NOT Xena Warrior Princess or anything. She would be no match, physically, for the Colonel. And I'm not sure she has enough room to run to gain the time needed for her intelligence to devise a way of dealing with him. Despite his enhancements, I don't think Edict is a combat robot, so the Colonel probably could best him too.
Centcomm 29th Jul 2014, 5:52 PM edit delete reply

Edict is a light combat / Industral model now . Not a light duty frame as before. He can take a bit of a pounding and is armed with two high powered welding lasers. but he is not as fast as Galina or the Col. And Galina although she is no tank is still not set up to be fighting a military cyborg.
Stormwind13 29th Jul 2014, 6:22 PM edit delete reply

It takes a military cyborg to FIGHT a military cyborg. :-D
Sheela 29th Jul 2014, 9:36 PM edit delete reply

... or TeeDee.
Stormwind13 29th Jul 2014, 9:57 PM edit delete reply

What is the difference between TeeDee and a military cyborg, Sheela? I mean, very little and mostly semantics. :-D
Centcomm 29th Jul 2014, 11:49 PM edit delete reply

Well to be fair in a fight between Teedee and Col Taylor Teedee would win in the Brute force dept . shes more advanced and better built. Col Taylor is still meat and metal
Stormwind13 30th Jul 2014, 5:41 PM edit delete reply

And what have you changed the vote incentive to over here? It looks... ominous. :-O
