Getting close!

And Galina has a precise 'scientific' term for the shapes of the possible landing craft... Triangley.

That is good, Rose. Nicely done.

CentComm, very pretty page. I was feeling the excitement, the tension as she is getting closer and closer to the unknown.
Centcomm 3rd Feb 2015, 6:31 AM edit delete reply

Shes very scientifica :D :D

and thank you - I like the way the pacing is going here :D
Haegan2005 3rd Feb 2015, 12:41 AM edit delete reply

Very nice. I'm not sure if I like one of the stories over the other now. They both pull at my attention.
Stormwind13 3rd Feb 2015, 2:08 AM edit delete reply

You say that like it is a BAD thing, Haegan. I'm with you though, both very interesting, making me want more pages.
DLKmusic 3rd Feb 2015, 3:11 AM edit delete reply

I like them both for different Reasons.

The best thing I like about Luna Star is that it has all the suspense you could ever ask for, yet there is no antagonist.

That is HARD to do!
Centcomm 3rd Feb 2015, 6:33 AM edit delete reply

thats one of the hardest thing with Luna Star.. there aren't that many "bad guys" but you have to keep it interesting other wise it could just be written out as a text book :D
Tokyo Rose 3rd Feb 2015, 8:10 PM edit delete reply

Like Cent said, it is quite challenging to write a story with no real "antagonist"--especially in this primarily-visual medium.

Cent will tell you (at length, no doubt) about several discussions we've had wherein Cent was thinking about adding a defined villain, while I held the hard line against it. The conflicts that drive this story aren't as simple as "there is a bad guy, kick his ass", and I feel very strongly that we would not only betray ourselves, but our readers, by presenting an ass that can be kicked to magically fix everything. The situation, the society, is the real "antagonist" against which Gali strives.

I remember how virulent the hatred grew when we introduced Dr. Granger. He instantly became the focus for all of the anger built up against our non-physical antagonist. There were comments calling him a psychopath, even screaming for his immediate and brutal demise. It was kind of scary. O_O
DLKmusic 3rd Feb 2015, 9:25 PM edit delete reply

I remember that, and as it turned out, he was misguided by his own hubris, but his heart really was in the right place.

Then, once he got the facts straight, he was actually a big help.

To bad the story line doesn't allow it, I would have liked to have seen more of him.
Kitty 4th Feb 2015, 12:55 AM edit delete reply
Oh, you've got antagonists, all right. They just aren't your standard "villain."

You've got the inhospitable conditions of space; it's easy to die if you don't take every precaution possible. You've got the emotional and spiritual conflicts such as loneliness, homesickness, equipment failure, etc., all of which cause stress, which can cause people to screw up. You've got the fear--make that terror--of being tiny little beings in the vastness of space, trying to make nice with much bigger, likely much more powerful alien beings that you might not be able to understand at all, let alone make friends with. You've the weird psychological things going on that caused Taylor to flip out and kill/injure people.

Yup. You've got antagonists in spades. Or at least, obstacles that have to be overcome. Well done :D
Centcomm 3rd Feb 2015, 6:31 AM edit delete reply

Thats good .. right?
DLKmusic 3rd Feb 2015, 6:41 AM edit delete reply

Good? That's AWESOME! (Literally, inspires Awe)
Stormwind13 3rd Feb 2015, 11:03 AM edit delete reply

Very good point, DLK. They are doing a great job, keeping us on edge, even if we know the end outcome is generally okay.
plymayer 3rd Feb 2015, 2:21 AM edit delete reply

Cool stuff.

I'm imagining the music from the Enterprise fly bye of V'ger in STTMP.
Fairportfan 3rd Feb 2015, 2:28 AM edit delete reply

Blue Danube
plymayer 3rd Feb 2015, 3:05 AM edit delete reply

Thanks :)
DLKmusic 3rd Feb 2015, 3:13 AM edit delete reply

All I'm imagining in the background right now is dead silence, minus Galina's heartbeat speeding up, and the sound of her breathing in that suit. Kinda creepy...

Keep in mind, I'm a musician, and music should be in the background of everything, lol!
sigpig 3rd Feb 2015, 1:34 PM edit delete reply
Or, if you were Jet, those sounds could be kinda... "hot"... lol
Centcomm 3rd Feb 2015, 6:33 AM edit delete reply

I put a link for some music I was listening to while working..
plymayer 3rd Feb 2015, 9:01 AM edit delete reply

Grew up in the early eighties. Will have to see my local's juke box has that song (Ultravox - the voice).
Sheela 3rd Feb 2015, 8:10 PM edit delete reply

Heh, the whole page has a completely different feel if you listen to some out of place music, like this for example.

That makes me wonder, would an android ever pick up music as a hobby ?
plymayer 4th Feb 2015, 1:14 AM edit delete reply

Data did.
DLKmusic 4th Feb 2015, 7:47 PM edit delete reply

LOL, Sheila... that's definately out of place here, but DUDE, that guy can play!!!!

I was half expecting you to put up a link to the theme song for Gilligan's Island!
DizzasterJuice 3rd Feb 2015, 4:02 AM edit delete reply

Some very cool space scenes!
Okay, this is the last time I'm going to warn you about the big ass bugs in that alien ship. When they start eating their way out of your stomach don't say I didn't warn you.
Centcomm 3rd Feb 2015, 6:37 AM edit delete reply

Thanks Dizz

hehe I hope Gali is carrying some large cans of Raid right?
StellarJ 3rd Feb 2015, 8:46 AM edit delete reply
Weren't those cans left in the care of Kiku in case something went wrong?
Antonious 3rd Feb 2015, 10:21 PM edit delete reply

No if I remember right Gali has them on board as a last ditch "It all goes to hell" solution. She hopes both that it works AND is not needed.
mjkj 3rd Feb 2015, 4:53 AM edit delete reply

Wow, great. So, they are waiting instead of making landfall...

What does that mean?

Centcomm 3rd Feb 2015, 6:37 AM edit delete reply

Could mean any number of things :D
Stormwind13 3rd Feb 2015, 11:02 AM edit delete reply

I get the feeling they are waiting for an invite, mjkj. Seriously polite alien invaders.
Tokyo Rose 3rd Feb 2015, 8:15 PM edit delete reply

Sheela 3rd Feb 2015, 8:17 PM edit delete reply

And how many japanese schoolgirls do you think will fall for that one ? XD
Centcomm 4th Feb 2015, 9:40 PM edit delete reply

lots? happens all the time in Anime ...
Stormwind13 4th Feb 2015, 10:28 PM edit delete reply

I think that depends on how cute the aliens are, Sheela.
Timotheus 3rd Feb 2015, 5:26 AM edit delete reply

Item one - She forgot the date in her log entry.
Item two - Did she bring change for the parking meter?
Item three - Does her shuttle have a grapple or suction grab to lock onto the alien ship's surface if it proves to not have a magnetic lock or its own grapple to secure her ship too? Otherwise the phrase, "Two ships that pass in the night." will be all too appropriate.
Centcomm 3rd Feb 2015, 6:39 AM edit delete reply

oopsy .. Sorry about the date .. slipped my mind actually :D

2) she doesnt have any quarters OOPS

3) Yes it does have back up grapples :D
mjkj 3rd Feb 2015, 9:05 AM edit delete reply

Well, the recording device should timestamp the entry automatically... why would she need to say it out loud?
sigpig 3rd Feb 2015, 1:36 PM edit delete reply
Tokyo Rose 3rd Feb 2015, 8:24 PM edit delete reply

I thought of putting the date in, but opted not to. Because yeah, the system IS recording it. :D
Stormwind13 3rd Feb 2015, 11:09 AM edit delete reply

Shouldn't need the grapples, Tim. Back a couple pages, If You Try Sometimes, Jet told her he was aiming her at a docking bay. So she should be INSIDE the ship. And it is large enough to generate some gravity of its own. Plus there is a good chance the aliens have artificial gravity, since they already have been shown to be using a point singularity for a drive.
Timotheus 3rd Feb 2015, 4:15 PM edit delete reply

Yes, a "assumed to be" docking bay on a alien ship not designed for her vessel or any earth units of measurement and for which no telemetry data is going to be realistically exchanged for landing or docking. Also unless there's some sort of 'tractor beam' to drag her ship in it will have to match velocity and rotation to land, and drag friction in space is not a good thing to depend on to stop the landing struts from sliding across an alien ship's surface material.
Stormwind13 4th Feb 2015, 12:12 AM edit delete reply

Jet is a bright boy. I think calculating that stuff would be child's play for him, Tim. Now you do have a valid point that it might not be what he thinks it is. For all he knows it is the business end of the Planet Smasher 9000 Cannon. Which is NOT where you want to park, I think.
Centcomm 4th Feb 2015, 9:40 PM edit delete reply

Jet already made the calculations to have her match velocity and pace .. thats all taken care of and once she matches its delta V its pretty easy to stay with it..

As Galina approaches Babylon 5, the tension increases! XD
Centcomm 4th Feb 2015, 9:39 PM edit delete reply

heh .. i did NOT design it after Babylon 5 .. its just certain things .. are kinda standard in space. and this design ( a cylinder ) is rather common in space design..
jas 4th Feb 2015, 10:00 PM edit delete reply

I know you didn't design it after Babylon 5, but it was a perfect subject for an opportunity to rib you in good fun!
Stormwind13 4th Feb 2015, 10:35 PM edit delete reply

No, no jas. Has to be Babylon 4. That one was designed to move around too. Just like this one did.
jas 4th Feb 2015, 10:42 PM edit delete reply

Does that mean we'll see Zathros, too, Stormwind? That'd be awesome!! XD
