Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 12:09 AM edit delete reply

Aw hell.. I didnt know someone actually used that in a game - >_<
Deo 10th Mar 2015, 12:15 AM edit delete reply

it's the little robot from destiny, i think it's the equivalent to Navi from the legend of zelda. but i don't think anybody would mind.
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 12:17 AM edit delete reply

I found the model in share CG thought it was cool .. geh..
Lurker 10th Mar 2015, 1:20 AM edit delete reply
It's a bit from Tron!
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:58 AM edit delete reply

it did remind me a bit of bit.. HAHAH HOO ! im so punny .
Beltboy 10th Mar 2015, 5:46 AM edit delete reply

Did you ever play Tron 2.0 there was Byte in that who was bigger and a bit more solid.
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:40 PM edit delete reply

never played that game :P
Beltboy 11th Mar 2015, 9:23 AM edit delete reply

Might be showing my age a bit (was 12 years ago), it followed the first film and was completely ignored when they wrote the second film.
Centcomm 11th Mar 2015, 2:21 PM edit delete reply

ah Ive seen the original and Tron legacy .. never played much of the old arcade games :D
DizzasterJuice 10th Mar 2015, 12:16 AM edit delete reply

"AAAAHHHH!!!! It's an android! Run for your lives. It's every probe-bot for himself"
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 12:17 AM edit delete reply

hehe yeah kinda mutual freak out :D
Sheela 10th Mar 2015, 9:10 AM edit delete reply

Well, to be fair, androids are freaky!
Centcomm 11th Mar 2015, 2:21 PM edit delete reply

That they can be.. :D
Stormwind13 11th Mar 2015, 9:12 PM edit delete reply

Naw, androids aren't freaky at all, Sheela. Talking DOGS on the other hand.
Morituri 11th Mar 2015, 9:16 PM edit delete reply
In my experience, androids are not freaky, they're kinky. Closely related but not the same thing.
Sheela 12th Mar 2015, 12:19 AM edit delete reply

No, no, talking dogs are perfectly normal. :)
Sleeper 10th Mar 2015, 12:17 AM edit delete reply

It's comforting to think that the horror of meeting a new species won't be one sided.

Finally caught up on your full archive. I like this one more than Datachasers. Probably because there's more explanation about the technology and the whole "first synthetic life form" thing resonates really well with me. Nicely done. Can't wait to see more.
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 12:23 AM edit delete reply

:D diffrent strokes - its all good glad you can read it and enjoy it .. Galina is totally awesome and shes a total sweety given a chance :D

I love working with characters like her :D
Miyto 10th Mar 2015, 4:18 AM edit delete reply
This one is also my favored of the two, perhaps because it reminds me more of Star Treks optimistic, humanistic, space explorations
DLKmusic 10th Mar 2015, 6:32 AM edit delete reply

I like them both a lot, but for different reasons. I like the whole "venturing into the unknown with no idea how we're gonna deal with it" that Luna Star creates.
And I with datachasers, Watching Rose and Cent try to keep the promise of it's tagline is impressive ("touching on the very fundamentals of humanity").

you are asking me to compare apricots to oranges! (ps. I like apricots, but I don't like apples)
Sheela 10th Mar 2015, 9:10 AM edit delete reply

Personally, I favor the Datachasers universe a bit, but they are both good. :)
Sleeper 10th Mar 2015, 1:18 PM edit delete reply

I thought Datachasers was the same universe just a bit down the line. I didn't mean to imply DC wasn't good. Just that I really like the premise of this one.

Either way, I think reading this one gave me a better understanding of the synthetics that I was confused about when I started DC. Gotta to go back to DC again soon.
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:42 PM edit delete reply

Luna Star takes place about 900 years before Datachasers so it is the same universe Galina is the "Prototype" of what would later become the Standard for Model fours.

Glad your enjoying it .. Luna Star despite its setting is waaay different than DC and DC has a much darker tone right now.
Morituri 11th Mar 2015, 9:49 PM edit delete reply
She totally could have finessed the 'synthetic lifeform' thing by fake-remembering things from the human Galina's life, up to the disaster, and then being 'confused' about what happened next but "I woke up again 3 years ago. My dad was 18 years older, but I ... wasn't. And I don't think I've gotten older since then. I don't know why."

She could have put a much stronger claim on being human than she did. But noooo, she's too nice a girl to engage in self-defensive lying.
Centcomm 12th Mar 2015, 12:01 AM edit delete reply

Yeah Galina isnt a very good liar.. Her human counterpart .. may or may not have been >_<
Rms2000 10th Mar 2015, 12:19 AM edit delete reply

And suddenly I'm reminded of the Monitor (343 Guilty Spark). I'm also reminded of a movie, the tittle of which I can't quite place, but which starred Robin Williams, who woke up to something strange in his face as well.

I am curious about this entity, though. It doesn't look like any of the other drones we've seen before and it's exterior shows very little of the utilitarian design that is typical for maintenance drones and security devices. It's awfully pointy, which suggests it may not be intended for user-friendliness: designs for library assistant droids are usually pleasantly rounded and unthreatening. The only reason I can think of to use a design like that is if it was intended to rely on maneuvering thrusters to move around, in which case that geometry would allow for a really impressive amount of maneuvering.
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 12:25 AM edit delete reply

When I picked this I was thinking of maneuverability, its totally "weightless" being able to float and move in any direction quickly and with pinpoint accuracy :D

And yes I HAD to do the wake up looking at something wild .. :D
xpacetrue 10th Mar 2015, 4:30 AM edit delete reply

"And suddenly I'm reminded of the Monitor (343 Guilty Spark)..."

Funny thing is: Until last week I would have missed that reference. I have yet to play Halo. But last week I came across a Monitor model on ShareCG. So I read up on the Halo background story, Monitors and the Flood.
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:42 PM edit delete reply

Ive never played Halo or even heard of monitors before now LOL!
Haegan2005 10th Mar 2015, 12:37 AM edit delete reply

Okay, this was good. A perfect way to start the party!
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:58 AM edit delete reply

hehe wait till you see what happens next :D
Sheela 10th Mar 2015, 9:12 AM edit delete reply

Well, the little 'bot did actually try to communicate in 5 different languages before Galina said "what?" and then freaked out.

Ah, all the discussions philosophers and politicians must have had about what the "first words" would be between human and ET's probably never thought of "What" and "AAAAHHHH" as possibilities. :D
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:43 PM edit delete reply

Yep he did :D and this is SO not going according to plan :D this could be a good thing :D
Sheela 10th Mar 2015, 7:44 PM edit delete reply

At least she understood one of the languages. :)
Tokyo Rose 10th Mar 2015, 8:17 PM edit delete reply

"Ah, all the discussions philosophers and politicians must have had about what the "first words" would be between human and ET's probably never thought of "What" and "AAAAHHHH" as possibilities."

I always personally thought that this was indeed how it would happen. :D
Beltboy 11th Mar 2015, 9:26 AM edit delete reply

Remind me to the <> brackets mean they're speaking Russian?
Centcomm 11th Mar 2015, 2:20 PM edit delete reply

Yes Generally speaking - Galina can speak almost six thousand languages fluently.. but normally for all others its < text > because the reader is hearing it though Galina occasionally she will use Russian slang or .. on occasion she might curse.. I think she might be up to a handful of bad words.. she got all those from going to "School" LOLO!
Fairportfan 10th Mar 2015, 1:53 AM edit delete reply

Heh. Both dearsom hideous creatures run screaming n opposite directions, both run halfway around the ship, meet on the other side, do it again ...

Eventually at least one of them is too tired to run any more, flops down on the deck, and they start to actually look at each other and then to talk...
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:57 AM edit delete reply

heheh - ok thats a funny image to think about :D
Sheela 10th Mar 2015, 9:14 AM edit delete reply

Hrm ... the little robot has no legs to run with though.

But maybe Galina could do the running for both of them, and do an entire lap of the ship, only to come face to receptor with the 'bot again, and then do another "AAAAAAHHH" and then run in the other direction ?
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:43 PM edit delete reply

snickers :D
Sheela 10th Mar 2015, 7:45 PM edit delete reply

The little 'bot would be very confused, I'm sure. :)
TheD-Wrek 10th Mar 2015, 2:11 AM edit delete reply

She's okay everyone! :D

Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:57 AM edit delete reply

YEP - shes just fine folks . well maybe a bit rattled .. :D in super good health :D She wasn't injured at all :D
Stormwind13 10th Mar 2015, 7:03 AM edit delete reply

I sure didn't expect that, CentComm. That pretty electrical aurora Galina was engulfed by sure looked like it did a nasty number on her.
Sheela 10th Mar 2015, 9:16 AM edit delete reply

Even more impressively, her suit still works.
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:44 PM edit delete reply

Yeah that was a case of the special effects looking a lot more impressive than it was .. but to be fair she IS wearing military armor.
Matt Knab 10th Mar 2015, 3:25 AM edit delete reply

Haha, perfect. The little guy sure is trying his darnedest to communicate. That's definitely a good sign. Also, it can be startled, which MAY also be a good sign.
Tokyo Rose 10th Mar 2015, 6:19 AM edit delete reply

Food for thought: Maybe it just assumes that loud screaming is a standard greeting for Gali's species. :D
DLKmusic 10th Mar 2015, 6:38 AM edit delete reply

My first thought, actually, was that it was mimicking Galina in an attempt to analyze her language.
Stormwind13 10th Mar 2015, 7:00 AM edit delete reply

Agreed DLK. That was my first thought too. It is mimicking Galina to analyze her speech pattern in order to enable communication.
EyeQuestOn 10th Mar 2015, 12:15 PM edit delete reply

Rose, the last panel is such a classic of 1st contact with such a brilliantly new spin that I believe it should be expanded and made into a Wallpaper, with the dialogue of course!... Please, PLEASEEE...! And please include 1024x768 size or that aspect ratio at least...

Peace out!
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:45 PM edit delete reply

Ill chime in with Rose on this one.

As for a larger version of this .. Ill see what I can do :D
EyeQuestOn 12th Mar 2015, 10:08 AM edit delete reply

Further thought after some reflection and seeing the next post!...

Is this simply a mechanical device, or one with a spark, or some sort of 'intercom-link', or...? So, in other words is this strictly speaking First Contact?

P.S. Thanks Cent for backing up my request!
cattservant 10th Mar 2015, 4:17 AM edit delete reply

Hello Hello
Sheela 10th Mar 2015, 9:08 AM edit delete reply

Goodbye goodbye.

Karyl 10th Mar 2015, 8:26 AM edit delete reply
There's a science fiction story from decades ago about aliens shaped like little barrels and the spaceman who first encounters them. He's saying "we are friends" and one of the aliens runs right into him and he says "ouch!" and all the aliens go around saying "We are friends ouch!" hahaha
Tokyo Rose 10th Mar 2015, 8:21 PM edit delete reply

I want to read that story SO BAD you don't even KNOW
Stormwind13 11th Mar 2015, 9:28 PM edit delete reply

Apparently it is short story called A Martian Oddyssey by Stanley Grauman Weinbaum. And no, I don't have a copy. Have to see if I can track one down.
Karyl 12th Mar 2015, 10:36 AM edit delete reply
Good digging StormWind.I linked the wikipedia which gives a synopsis.
Karyl 12th Mar 2015, 10:31 AM edit delete reply
found the reference needed to get the story!

In panel 4 is the little AI speaking Gallifreyin? If not it really looks very similar to it.
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:46 PM edit delete reply

actually that is one of the humorous text boxes we did. and yes its Gallifreyan LD
epikto 11th Mar 2015, 10:57 PM edit delete reply
Yes.. well done!
Sheela 10th Mar 2015, 9:09 AM edit delete reply

Smooth Galina .. smoooth! XD
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:47 PM edit delete reply

I know right!
Sheela 10th Mar 2015, 7:46 PM edit delete reply

Next thing, you know she'll fall over while scrambling backwards. :)

Supah-smooth! XD
Centcomm 11th Mar 2015, 2:23 PM edit delete reply

now that would be funny :D
jas 10th Mar 2015, 11:03 AM edit delete reply

From the last frame, I couldn't help but be reminded of this "first contact" in SCG:

Good page, though! I loved the lighting throughout this page.
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:47 PM edit delete reply

hehe ok not as explosive as that..
Spelledeg 10th Mar 2015, 12:16 PM edit delete reply

Gali's okay! I'm so glad. I kind of expected the worst. BUT OH MY GOSH, that probe-bot-thing? (maybe with a tiny alien pilot inside?) is adorable. I love the different speech bubble and font usage to show the little probe trying to find something common in its language base to what it thinks Gali might communicate with. Very cool. :)

Also, nice use of motion lines to show that quick jolt there! :D (This page is so cute)
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:48 PM edit delete reply

Thanks - I really had to think about that.. one bad thing about CGI is its very hard to get motion out of the charctres sometimes im really glad this paid off :D

And One is actually rather adorable :D
Sheela 10th Mar 2015, 7:47 PM edit delete reply

One ?
mjkj 10th Mar 2015, 1:55 PM edit delete reply

*lol* that is a way for first contact...
Centcomm 10th Mar 2015, 2:48 PM edit delete reply

yes it is ! betcha didnt see that coming :D
Sheela 10th Mar 2015, 7:53 PM edit delete reply

I half expected Galina to make contact with a disembodied voice :

Alien : "Hello."
Galina : "Oh hello there, my name is Galina, I come in peace."
Alien : "I see, I am Plorx, and I was already at peace, until I was disturbed at least."
Galina : "Sorry to disturb you, but ... uhmm ... where are you?"
Alien : "You're standing on my pHlyphtrax"
Galina : "Sorry, sorry - sorry - wait, what is a pHlyphtrax?"
Alien : "You don't want to know."
Galina : "Oh c'mon!"
Alien : "You really, don't want to know."
Galina : "C'moooon!"
Alien : *sigh* "Allright, it's my waste excrement opening."
Galina : "Eeeeeewwwwww!"

Haegan2005 10th Mar 2015, 9:14 PM edit delete reply

THAT would be my luck... :)
Centcomm 11th Mar 2015, 2:24 PM edit delete reply

LOL .. I have nothing constructive to add.. T_T
Shoddi 11th Mar 2015, 1:44 PM edit delete reply
Nice touch with the maker's mark in Galina's eye in the 5th panel. Subtle.
Centcomm 11th Mar 2015, 2:18 PM edit delete reply

Thank you . Normally you cant see it at all :D
Stormwind13 11th Mar 2015, 9:36 PM edit delete reply

Wow. Nice catch there, Shoddi. I hadn't looked that close at it.
CyberSkull 11th Mar 2015, 10:33 PM edit delete reply

So, how long did it take for aliens to stop thinking that humans communicate in panicked screams?
Centcomm 12th Mar 2015, 12:00 AM edit delete reply

hehe now now .. Spoilers :D
Kitty 11th Mar 2015, 11:56 PM edit delete reply
Question is, is the alien also yelling out of fear or being startled....or is it just imitating Gali thinking that this is a standard greeting for her species?
Centcomm 12th Mar 2015, 12:00 AM edit delete reply

Very good question ! That will be answered on the next page! :D
Yorple 1st Apr 2015, 4:43 PM edit delete reply
So... skipped Klingon and went straight to Bynar...?
niauropsaka 10th Aug 2016, 4:26 AM edit delete reply
Japanese (I think)? Gallifreyan? They really are working blind, and just trying out everything they can think of to communicate!
