I'm the only licensed asshole around here, so if you're going to comment, please be courteous and respectful to others. If our story sucks and we lose readers, it's totally on us, but if another reader is being a twat and driving them away, we will not be nice about it.

I am gathering that I missed something?

In any case, good continuation! My inner sci-fi geek is geeking!
DLKmusic 31st Mar 2015, 1:04 AM edit delete reply

I'm right there with you, Haegan.... I need to get some tape to put on my glasses!
Haegan2005 31st Mar 2015, 1:07 AM edit delete reply

I already have my pocket protector and fake braces! But I did forget the tape.
Sigh, Inner geek fail!
Sheela 31st Mar 2015, 6:38 PM edit delete reply

Seems like I have missed some drama as well.

Ah well, that just means I can enjoy the story all the more. :)
Tokyo Rose 31st Mar 2015, 7:26 PM edit delete reply

Y'all have no idea how much drama is going on sometimes. I get some of the weirdest PMs.
Haegan2005 31st Mar 2015, 9:13 PM edit delete reply

Haters going to hate, but most people will take you as presented and like what they read and see.

While there is such a thing as constructive criticism, there is also something that is destructive criticism.

The last tends to be from people who have issues with other peoples successes. I would call them by a name I feel to be foul indeed. Bullies.

They cannot feel good until they have hurt another person, be it physically or emotionally. They gain their internal stature by how much they harm others, instead of how much they help build others up. They are vicious loathsome creatures who do harm that can take years or decades to mend.

Enough ranting guys. I enjoy DC and LS because I can identify with the characters, feel empathy for them, and even relate in a way to the crap they get put through. I cheer at their successes and groan at their failures. This is nothing less then good writing and I hope to see this around for a long time to come!
mjkj 1st Apr 2015, 3:47 AM edit delete reply

Well spoken, Haegan, well spoken.
Sheela 1st Apr 2015, 12:21 PM edit delete reply

Aw, now I feel like I've missed out on something.

... I wanna send Rose weird PM's too! XD
Tokyo Rose 1st Apr 2015, 6:55 PM edit delete reply

Oh God. Don't I suffer enough with PMs about how the predominantly female cast is crushing the patriarchy by depicting men primarily as villains, or pandering to the patriarchy with needless fanservice, or needs to have tons and tons of in-your-face lesbianism in it?

Yes, I have seen all three of those things as subjects of PMs. Along with complaints that we don't address issues of importance to the LGBTOMGWTFBBQ (or whatever elaborate initialism is in vogue now) movement, or that we're racist because almost everybody "looks white", or that we're bra-burning feminazis because a man is our main villain, or that there are only two human-animal hybrids and there should be lots more . . . seriously, if I ever forget that I'm on the internet, my PMs remind me.
Sheela 1st Apr 2015, 10:29 PM edit delete reply

Hrm, well, I was thinking more in the line of a much, much shorter message, like ..

TheD-Wrek 31st Mar 2015, 12:08 AM edit delete reply

I love the expressions on this page so much, haha. They made me smile. :)
Stormwind13 31st Mar 2015, 7:02 AM edit delete reply

Agreed D-Wrek. The Singer's expression as she works to pronounce Galina's name is wonderful! Great work CentComm. And you too, Rose getting the sounds to go with the expressions!
Tokyo Rose 31st Mar 2015, 7:24 PM edit delete reply

For once, that was all Cent, who intentionally used the phonemes with the syllables in mind ;D
Stormwind13 31st Mar 2015, 9:04 PM edit delete reply

Wow. Then doubly good for CentComm. But you made it look good with the fonts you used.
Centcomm 31st Mar 2015, 9:32 PM edit delete reply

I did actually look up the proper tongue / lip and teeth positions to do those .. and wound up sounding it out to make sure I got it right .. :D
jamie59 31st Mar 2015, 12:23 AM edit delete reply

Beautiful page.
And Rose we still love you.
Centcomm 31st Mar 2015, 9:32 PM edit delete reply

Yes we do.. we love our spiky ball of hate :D
Timotheus 31st Mar 2015, 12:34 AM edit delete reply

And now is when she brings up what a great opportunity it would be for Galena to open up her own franchise of "GATEWAY(r)" all natural home, health, and beauty products here in her own planetary system. And she can share her good fortune by enlisting her friends and relatives as her sales and marketing staff and they can do likewise. It's all covered in this brochure and as soon as she helps fix their mass advertising system this orbital warehouse/distribution center will be ready to support her sales.
Lukkai 31st Mar 2015, 1:10 AM edit delete reply
That or she tells her how she managed to save ten percent on her car insurance.
Centcomm 31st Mar 2015, 9:33 PM edit delete reply

knock knock .. intergalactic Avon calling :D
Kitty 31st Mar 2015, 10:31 PM edit delete reply
Or she promises a free vacation for two to a resort planet, but first Galina has to sit through a two hour presentation on timeshares on a space station ;D
Dongaria 31st Mar 2015, 2:11 AM edit delete reply

I've always been a fan of alien symbols as names so that it gives you an impression of what the name means but you can't actually say it.
Centcomm 31st Mar 2015, 9:34 PM edit delete reply

you can actually thank Rose for that :D she came up with the idea :D
Krisu 31st Mar 2015, 2:29 AM edit delete reply

I felt sorry about that first text in the comments section by Rose... so I felt that perhaps I shoud share my feelings.... I have Luna Star and Data Chasers on my start page as tiles and click them very eagerly every day to check for updates. I think you make fantastic stories and graphics and I wonder what drives people like you to do that and give it all away for free on the internet. I think it must be a "labor of love"? and want to thank you for this amazing effort. All the best to you Cent and Rose! Keep up the awesome work!

mjkj 31st Mar 2015, 2:49 AM edit delete reply

Wow, she is so beautiful...

I wonder what Gali will call her, how that symbol is pronounced or if she is just calling her Singer...

Centcomm 31st Mar 2015, 9:35 PM edit delete reply

thats actually next page :D
velvetsanity 31st Mar 2015, 10:59 PM edit delete reply

If I knew what kind of flower that symbol is, I'd have a guess. It doesn't look like a tulip or a rose or a lily or any other kind of flower I can think of the name of...
xpacetrue 31st Mar 2015, 4:18 AM edit delete reply

A few pages ago, Galina was shown a structure "several millions of your orbital periods in the past." And she was told they searched for other life "to make contact as friends."

If they've been doing this for thousands or millions of years, they should have this whole first contact thing down to a science. ;)

Why was this individual chosen to speak with Galina? "Bringer of Words"... Is she their equivalent to a diplomat?
Cperka 31st Mar 2015, 4:47 AM edit delete reply

She probably is the one with properly formed vocal chords. "Words" might be they keyword, heh.
Centcomm 31st Mar 2015, 9:36 PM edit delete reply

everything about the "Bringer of words" is meant to make it easy to interact with Humans :D
Cperka 31st Mar 2015, 4:53 AM edit delete reply

Rose, our beautiful mistress, please don't refer to yourself as an asshole. It's not a weird thing for a human to grow bitter and abrasive after millenium of ploting, masterminding and reading internet comments ;)

Stories of Data Chasers and Luna Stars are intricate, beautiful, deep and addictive. I am very grateful for your work, as well as Cent-Comm mastery in CGI and comic arts. Without both of you and Cent-Comm, internet would be lacking in something very nicely done.

Also, "Gaa-lee-na" face expressions thingy is realy amazing CC. Keep up your good work, both of you :)
DLKmusic 1st Apr 2015, 3:24 AM edit delete reply

I would actually like to echo Cperka's comments. Keep your edge, Rose, it brings a lot to both DC and LS. You're more than just an editor, you bring a "bite" to the strip that helps keep us glued to our computers.

And if you haven't heard it enough, thank you, BOTH of you, for your wonderful work!
Timotheus 31st Mar 2015, 5:21 AM edit delete reply

I remember those facial expressions from my speech therapy classes back in 1959. Along with the cross section views showing proper placement of the tongue, lips, and teeth. (Sammy Snake Says Say "Ssss".)
cattservant 31st Mar 2015, 8:41 AM edit delete reply

Stormwind13 31st Mar 2015, 9:02 PM edit delete reply

There is a LOT to be said for that, catt. :-D
DizzasterJuice 31st Mar 2015, 10:24 AM edit delete reply

Look out! She's got a grenade!
... or she wants to play fetch with the humans.
Sleeper 31st Mar 2015, 1:57 PM edit delete reply

I was guessing it was like a universal translator.
Stormwind13 31st Mar 2015, 9:00 PM edit delete reply

She wants to get close Dizz so can put a collar on new pet. THEN will have new pet play fetch... And can bring Galina to heel if need be (the collar has obedience protocols built-in).
DizzasterJuice 1st Apr 2015, 12:58 AM edit delete reply

Either that or---
Centcomm 1st Apr 2015, 3:59 AM edit delete reply

poor froggy :(
Stormwind13 1st Apr 2015, 12:15 PM edit delete reply

The Singer wouldn't do that, Dizz! I mean if that was what they were after they had her in the airlock hallway!
ProfEtheric 31st Mar 2015, 1:01 PM edit delete reply

This is seriously one of the best "first contact" stories I've ever encountered. It's simply wonderful. :)
Centcomm 31st Mar 2015, 10:21 PM edit delete reply

YOU are more than kind :D thank you ive wanted to do a first contact story for a long time :D
CptKerion 1st Apr 2015, 4:40 PM edit delete reply
I would like to second that motion.
It's probably one of my favorites by a relatively large margin, it is equal to Alan Dean Foster's Nor Crystal Tears in my list of favorite first contact stories, though for rather different reasons.
anonymous coward 31st Mar 2015, 2:39 PM edit delete reply
Now I'm imagining a remix of the license scamming scene in The Blues Brothers, except I'm not sure what good "an asshole license" would be. Who would pay for a licensed, professional asshole in good standing anyway? What kind of work do they do?
Tokyo Rose 31st Mar 2015, 7:39 PM edit delete reply

Never underestimate the market value and career opportunities of a professional asshole.

. . . . . . . .

That sounded better, or at least less bad, in my head.
cattservant 1st Apr 2015, 12:44 AM edit delete reply

Somebody has to keep the shit together!
Kitty 31st Mar 2015, 10:34 PM edit delete reply
Are you kidding? The fields of politics, entertainment and corporate management are full of opportunities for assholes!
DLKmusic 1st Apr 2015, 3:19 AM edit delete reply

Very true, Kitty, however, most of them aren't licensed.
Sheela 1st Apr 2015, 12:26 PM edit delete reply

I don't trust professional assholes, they are always full of sh** !
Matt Knab 31st Mar 2015, 7:32 PM edit delete reply

This is pretty much the best possible way first contact with an alien race can go. No one's even trying to EAT each other!!
CptKerion 1st Apr 2015, 4:42 PM edit delete reply
And we've already stopped pointing thermonuclear weapons at each other! Woo!
