Now that is interesting. Nice Fx budget :D
Centcomm 9th Apr 2015, 12:56 AM edit delete reply

Thanks - I tried to make it a subtle thing :D
ProfEtheric 9th Apr 2015, 12:24 AM edit delete reply

And that is why she is going to make this work! :)
Centcomm 9th Apr 2015, 12:56 AM edit delete reply

You betcha .. Actually at that power level and range Iris could have BADLY hurt a normal person :D
Stormwind13 9th Apr 2015, 12:37 PM edit delete reply

What a way to go though, CentComm. Iris would make a gorgeous sight to take into the dark with you. And if you survived, the dreams you would have for the rest of your life. :-D
Haegan2005 9th Apr 2015, 12:27 AM edit delete reply

Why does what remains of her suite remind me of Xena warrior princess?

Edit, Okay, the top part anyways.
Centcomm 9th Apr 2015, 12:55 AM edit delete reply

Proably because of the scoop neck and the bare arms :D and the armor like circles :D
Haegan2005 9th Apr 2015, 1:03 AM edit delete reply

lol nailed it!
Stormwind13 9th Apr 2015, 12:32 PM edit delete reply

LOL Haegan. Wasn't thinking that way, but now that you mention it, I can see where you got it.
DLKmusic 13th Apr 2015, 1:10 AM edit delete reply

Now I've got the stupid theme song from that show stuck in my head.... Thanks a lot!
jamie59 9th Apr 2015, 12:48 AM edit delete reply

Vulcan mind meld
Centcomm 9th Apr 2015, 12:55 AM edit delete reply

Not exactly :D

Hey, our protagonist is a telepathic dud!
You know, that's actually really a blessing in many cases.
Timotheus 10th Apr 2015, 4:23 AM edit delete reply

I've developed a fairly lengthy theory about why Galina (and others of her sort) are telepathically silent. Basically it boils down to the fact that the biological components of her brain were designed by engineers rather than evolved by hit and miss evolution. Our nervous systems and what ever passes for Iris's and the other intelligent species in the galaxy's are all due to natural selection, thus they have redundancies, evolutionary artifacts, variable synapse gaps (and thus thought frequencies), activation chemicals, etc.
This would provide a wide variety of opportunities for what is known as telepathy to effect the transfer of thought data from one being to another. It would also make the situation worse for those whose organic brains were interfaced with mechano/electric components but not shielded from such outside interference, the metallic components perhaps acting as antennae.
For those species that have never developed the ability to do this consciously, encountering it can be terrible.
An engineered brain like Galina's though would be designed to have as few gaps as possible, its dimensions and components standardized and interfaces shielded. To a telepath, unless it could just by happenstance hit the exact frequency, her brain is a smooth, slightly humming surface, somewhat like low volume white noise.
Centcomm 10th Apr 2015, 4:28 AM edit delete reply

YES! "Silent crystal children of Mankind " is a Epiphyte Quote :D
Morituri 10th Apr 2015, 4:48 PM edit delete reply
You know those so-called 'psychics' who populate help lines and palm-reading places and tell fortunes with Tarot cards and so on?

If they had any real psychic talent, they could not possibly stand to be anywhere near their customers.
Centcomm 11th Apr 2015, 7:20 AM edit delete reply

Pretty much..
mjkj 9th Apr 2015, 2:41 AM edit delete reply

Wow, great update...

...and yayy, Gali is not affected :D

I like the glowing eyes...

Stormwind13 9th Apr 2015, 12:35 PM edit delete reply

Agreed mjkj. The update is gorgeous and the glowing (FX) eyes are really neat.

Do I detect a slight visual distortion in the last panel? There seems to be some wavy lines in Iris' appearance around the head and point of contact (hand).
Centcomm 11th Apr 2015, 7:19 AM edit delete reply

Yes there is a very light distortion around her head :D it fades as it goes out :D
Howard 9th Apr 2015, 4:41 AM edit delete reply
Reminds me of that guy from dark city when he uses his powers. Or aqua man when he talks to fish lol
Lukkai 9th Apr 2015, 11:36 PM edit delete reply
Oooh, Dark City!

A classic!
HiFranc 12th Apr 2015, 6:12 AM edit delete reply

I don't remember his eyes changing.
Sheela 9th Apr 2015, 7:03 AM edit delete reply

Yes, yes indeedy, Galina is very female.

Just ask Jet. XD
Centcomm 11th Apr 2015, 7:19 AM edit delete reply

Oh So much yes!
DizzasterJuice 9th Apr 2015, 9:48 AM edit delete reply

"This is Aloe, one of 'those-who-heal'. Just break off a piece of her and rub it on you and she'll fix you right up."
Stormwind13 9th Apr 2015, 12:31 PM edit delete reply

LOL Dizz. That would actually be funny and WORK. :-D
Lukkai 9th Apr 2015, 11:37 PM edit delete reply
Considering the form this envoy has taken, it still evokes some very strange mental pictures. XD
anonymous coward 10th Apr 2015, 5:19 AM edit delete reply
Then don't break off any pieces, just rub against one of the parts that leaks sap by design instead.
Sheela 10th Apr 2015, 7:32 PM edit delete reply

They rub with bosoms !
highlander55 10th Apr 2015, 10:17 PM edit delete reply

Hmmm! If they have the healers like Aloe then it stands to reason they have the other side as well. Poison Ivy, Poison Sumac and others!
Lukkai 10th Apr 2015, 11:32 PM edit delete reply
Warriors and assassins then, I presume.
HiFranc 12th Apr 2015, 6:21 AM edit delete reply

That doesn't have to to be the case. After all the Organians (from Star Trek) didn't have warriors. I got the impression, from Datachasers, that they were extremely peaceful.

In any case, it looks like their robots are designed for defence (after all a robot did taser Galina).
Centcomm 11th Apr 2015, 7:18 AM edit delete reply

They may or may not have a "warrior" sub race :D having a ship that can generate a black hole pretty much covers combat and warfare :D
highlander55 11th Apr 2015, 5:14 PM edit delete reply

@Cent- They could be used as defense or ground pounders.
Sheela 12th Apr 2015, 12:17 PM edit delete reply

Their bosoms are considered heavy artillery against human males. XD
Matt Knab 9th Apr 2015, 4:37 PM edit delete reply

Hanging out in the shade of an elder sounds like a good afternoon. :)
Stormwind13 9th Apr 2015, 10:47 PM edit delete reply

Yeah, except it would probably seek to TEACH you, Matt. Start in on history of the world, part I. :-D
anonymous coward 10th Apr 2015, 5:14 AM edit delete reply
"I'm Ghengis Khan. You'll go where I go, defile what I defile, eat who I eat. Mmm?" *wink*
I don't see the problem with that. Learning history from the perspective of sentient, telepathic trees that used to be human-ish would probably be hilariously weird and informative. It might be overly-optimistic of me to even hope for this, but I'd almost *expect* that with their telepathy they'd customize what they try to teach based on their observations of your interests, attention-span and learning capacity.
DLKmusic 10th Apr 2015, 9:33 PM edit delete reply

History of the world, part 1!

Moses: "I bring you these 15 (crash), err.... ten... TEN commandments."

(Thank you, Mel, after 30 years, that's still funny as hell!)
Lukkai 10th Apr 2015, 11:33 PM edit delete reply
Only a miracle can save us now!
Centcomm 11th Apr 2015, 7:17 AM edit delete reply

it would be very peaceful :D
DLKmusic 9th Apr 2015, 8:50 PM edit delete reply

well, we have at least one person who is immune to the orbital mind control lasers!

OMCL: "OBEY", "OBEY"

Galina: "Huh?"

PS... Iris doesn't look quite so "unfrightening" in the final frame there.... That would scare the snot out of me!
Sheela 10th Apr 2015, 8:07 AM edit delete reply

Ah yes, she could definately be a mean grean mother from outer space !

It's probably one of them Feral Roses. XD
Centcomm 11th Apr 2015, 6:32 AM edit delete reply

hehe - :D Yeah Gali is pretty much immune to Telepathy :D
UncleRice 9th Apr 2015, 9:45 PM edit delete reply
So, they are telepathic dryads from space.
Centcomm 11th Apr 2015, 6:26 AM edit delete reply

Yep! Thats a good way to put it :D
HiFranc 11th Apr 2015, 10:34 PM edit delete reply

Has she still got her earpiece? Is the Luna Star still monitoring her? Has anybody contacted Earth to tell them what's happening?
Centcomm 13th Apr 2015, 5:01 AM edit delete reply

Gali Still has her ear piece :D and it also contains a Micro cam :D
rfaramir 14th Apr 2015, 1:01 PM edit delete reply
I can't imagine anyone interested in watching Galina's ear wax accumulate slowly…

Why would anyone put a Micro cam into an ear piece?
HiFranc 12th Apr 2015, 6:22 AM edit delete reply

Looking at the cast list, I take it you are assuming that Putin is successful in re-creating the Soviet Union?
Tokyo Rose 13th Apr 2015, 6:19 PM edit delete reply

It's basically a typo. Cent grew up during the Cold War. :D
HiFranc 13th Apr 2015, 6:41 PM edit delete reply

So did I. :D Scorpion's Wind of Change still has the power to send chills up my spine.
cattservant 13th Apr 2015, 4:52 AM edit delete reply

A step in the right direction.
Elihias 13th Apr 2015, 8:50 PM edit delete reply
