Heh. I like wasabi, too, but...

(BTW - did we decide whether this board uses BBCode or <i>HTML</i> markup?
Fairportfan 31st Jul 2012, 3:22 AM edit delete reply

Okay - BBCode it is.

There's a film called Wasabi that stars Jean Reno. He cheerfully eats wasabi straight,
Centcomm 31st Jul 2012, 8:43 AM edit delete reply

Oh never mind you figured it out >_<
CyberSkull 1st Aug 2012, 7:03 AM edit delete reply

I think Wasabi is my favorite Jean Reno movie.
Fairportfan 31st Jul 2012, 3:25 AM edit delete reply

And, come to think, there's a book called Quin's Shanghai Circus that features a character who constantly uses some sort of snuff or something, putting it up his nose ... which is revealed in the end to be wasabi...
Centcomm 31st Jul 2012, 8:43 AM edit delete reply

EEEEE.. All i know is its HOT stuff..
cattservant 1st Aug 2012, 12:34 AM edit delete reply

Curried jalapenos for supper!
Centcomm 31st Jul 2012, 8:42 AM edit delete reply

its BBcode according to Cat - and he often does links and stuff..
cattservant 31st Jul 2012, 3:33 AM edit delete reply

Poor Galina, just naturaly* atypical...
Yes Dr. Cooper, there is something unusual happening here!

*(Or perhaps that's an incorrect term.)
Centcomm 31st Jul 2012, 8:44 AM edit delete reply

Yes that she is !
mushroomisland 31st Jul 2012, 11:43 AM edit delete reply

XD she ate the wasabi. maybe its her new favorite food..
Centcomm 31st Jul 2012, 12:00 PM edit delete reply

due to the make up of it - she can actually taste it !
cattservant 31st Jul 2012, 12:03 PM edit delete reply

Now if Dr. Cooper will give her a nice glassful of acetic acid to wash lunch down with, everyone will learn something...
Centcomm 31st Jul 2012, 5:27 PM edit delete reply

actually (( Acetic acid play /əˈsiːtɨk/ (systematically named ethanoic acid )) would proably damage her considering its a weak acid and will attack skin, her eosophgus is flesh...her voice box however is not - Thus the odd sound to her voice.. to discribe it its like a mild flange very faint but distictive. this is a precoursor to the "vox" that 3825 andriods use ..
cattservant 31st Jul 2012, 5:58 PM edit delete reply

Scrap that idea then. So basically someone with an inquiring mind* who spent a reasonable amount of time with Ms. Kotko would find themselves taking a walk through the Valley Uncanny!

*(Let us hope the good Doctor is big on patient/physician confidentiality. Actually only the Doctor and the Commander would need to know about Galina's condition.)
Centcomm 31st Jul 2012, 6:02 PM edit delete reply

with her voice .. yes. and other things :D
cattservant 31st Jul 2012, 6:08 PM edit delete reply

My apologies, I have an unfortunate proclivity to 'go back' and 'touch up' after posting. I've annoyed view more than once that way.
Centcomm 31st Jul 2012, 6:53 PM edit delete reply

no apology needed *HUGS* i love your comments-

Fairportfan 1st Aug 2012, 3:07 AM edit delete reply

No ... no ... no ...

NOT gonna make jokes about "valleys"...
Fairportfan 1st Aug 2012, 3:06 AM edit delete reply

5% acetic acid is called "vinegar".
Centcomm 1st Aug 2012, 3:25 AM edit delete reply

ah .. looked it up on wiki - you lie wikipedea !!
Fairportfan 2nd Aug 2012, 12:24 AM edit delete reply

Well, stronger acetic acid would do you harm... of course, you have hydrochloric acid in your stomach.
plymayer 31st Jul 2012, 6:22 PM edit delete reply

I could tell you a story about the first time I ate sushi.... Let us just say I like it and move on.... :)
Centcomm 31st Jul 2012, 6:53 PM edit delete reply

oh NO gotta tell thats the rules !
plymayer 1st Aug 2012, 7:41 PM edit delete reply

I did not realize how hot the wasabi was. Ate the whole thing at once...
Centcomm 1st Aug 2012, 7:58 PM edit delete reply

YOW ! you poor thing!
Fairportfan 2nd Aug 2012, 12:29 AM edit delete reply

Heh. First time i ate sushi (a VERY memorable afternoon) i was at some friends' place in North Carolina, and they had decided to experiment with making their own.

It was Very Good; i was hooked.

That was also the day i fled the state of North Carolina (later) to avoid coming face to face with a friend who'd recently broken up with her husband (which no-ne knew about yet) who was crashing there. Which i also hadn't known.

Considering i had a SERIOUS crush on her ever since i met her, but her husband was a good friend...

Well, instead of staying there and facing her, i literally fled the state.

(And what this has to so with Luna Star, i do not know...)
Centcomm 31st Jul 2012, 9:45 PM edit delete reply

hehe :D
CyberSkull 1st Aug 2012, 7:04 AM edit delete reply

I'm wondering if Gali's taste buds are underdeveloped or her olfactory sense was never installed correctly (I'd guess olfactory failure).
Centcomm 1st Aug 2012, 6:21 PM edit delete reply

her sense of taste is less than that of normal humans due to imperfected nural connections - her sense of smell also suffers from the same lack of technology...

Sight / touch / and hearing are all human normal..
cattservant 1st Aug 2012, 9:58 PM edit delete reply

Taste and Smell probably are more complex and have less to do with Galina's design parameters. I imagine there were time and cost factors involved too.
Centcomm 1st Aug 2012, 11:59 PM edit delete reply

Lets just say the budget for Gali would break small companys....However work on her paved the way for much better advances ..
CyberSkull 2nd Aug 2012, 5:29 AM edit delete reply

The majority of the sense of taste is rooted in smell, so if that is working right then that will carry the sense of taste.
Fairportfan 2nd Aug 2012, 12:33 AM edit delete reply

When we had the World Science Fiction Convention here in Atlanta (1986), the guy running the Hospitality area discovered that he would have $5000 of his budget left over.

He ordered take-away sushi from Benihana, at $1 a piece.

And distributed big trays of it around the lounge for the last full day.

A gang of us were playing Trivial Pursuit and we simply annexed several trays...
Centcomm 2nd Aug 2012, 12:35 AM edit delete reply

oh wow - thats awesome !!! bet that made everyone happy .. btw that the same place DragonCon is right?
Caley Tibbittz Collopy 18th Oct 2012, 10:43 AM edit delete reply

VERY cute page, and I love it turns immediately back to drama toward the end. Very well executed storytelling.
Centcomm 18th Oct 2012, 10:45 AM edit delete reply

Danke - I really appreceate that !
Anon 28th Mar 2014, 12:53 AM edit delete reply
