Alert! Life lesson about to download!
Centcomm 4th Jan 2013, 5:08 AM edit delete reply

yup .. one that might prove to have lasting effects..
plymayer 4th Jan 2013, 3:43 AM edit delete reply

I don't mind being expendable. Just hope the price is worth it.
cattservant 4th Jan 2013, 4:00 AM edit delete reply

Yeah, it's the survivors who have to shovel up...
Centcomm 4th Jan 2013, 5:08 AM edit delete reply

is it ever?
plymayer 4th Jan 2013, 5:44 AM edit delete reply

Can be. Should be a price never paid lightly.

Just wild conjecture of course, but it sounds as if he's gonna take a lot of convincing, while Gali runs the risk of saying something that might clue him in big-time. Her self-preservation routines may need a slight tweaking! I keep wanting to shush her. :)
Centcomm 4th Jan 2013, 5:09 AM edit delete reply

so do I but her slowly growing temper is beginning to simmer.. this isnt a good thing
cattservant 4th Jan 2013, 5:17 AM edit delete reply

Hope she doesn't find anger as stimulating as some of her recent experiences!
ranger_brianna_new 4th Jan 2013, 5:22 AM edit delete reply

Well, at least he's done a *slightly* better job of giving a possible reason for why his viewpoint on them could be *potentially* justified...

...But that said, it's still a huge stretch of the imagination for his argument to hold any water. :P

What, really, is a human being, other than one of nature's most complex machines? Our brains are some of the ultimate computers, but they are just that, so what sets us apart from them?

I can't really come up with a good answer, hence why his argument tends to fall flat. :P

Ill point you at ths line in datachasers

Death2Bravo 4th Jan 2013, 8:04 AM edit delete reply

Machines are just so much easier to rationalize throwing away in a futile situation than people. That's a really "human" attitude. NOT. Release her inhibitions and you'll get a better functioning AI. That often works for people too (within reason)
Hornet 4th Jan 2013, 12:32 PM edit delete reply
No the first part is a completely human attitude. Course Gali doesn't want to hear that being a machine in body. the difference between her and the droid is she's based on a memory of a living person (if not an out right memory emgram) and been "raised" as a person instead of programmed. It's the raising part that says no to building mobile adult sized AI. Jusst think if W.O.P.P.E.R.'S "Joshua" had been built as a 3C comp in a US Tomahawk missile cruiser.
Centcomm 4th Jan 2013, 4:43 PM edit delete reply

your right . that mire of lock outs and restrictions is exactly why the Andriods of later times have so few if any "Hard-Rules" and they switched to the "Morality Framework" of soft instructions at creation.

My art teacher once told me that Data is not alive. I disagreed.

I'm enjoying this new wrinkle, and I really like the design of glass-wall brain lady-bot (that's a great metaphor, too).
Centcomm 5th Jan 2013, 5:49 AM edit delete reply

Data being alive is a intresting point. as a positronic andriod ( much like the female andriod here - they can be deactivated with little or no damage. the main diffrence here is galina's "artifical nural tissue and brainmatter. if shes deactived it will die from lack of oxigen and nutriens. where as data or this one do not need to breath or eat.

so what defines humanity .. or life?
life in this case would be the biological activity present in cells and animals. humanity that is a much greater gray area.

So it's official: Jet's a jerk. And now we know why. My opinion of the man plummets by the page...
Centcomm 5th Jan 2013, 5:50 AM edit delete reply

hehe.. poor Jet and Gali ..
Hornet 8th Jan 2013, 2:52 PM edit delete reply
I wouldn't say he's a jerk he's very human. He sees a car for what it is a vehicle to get him from point A to point B not a fashion/social statement.
Course since he's "been under the hood" so to speak it's even more obvious to him.
Centcomm 9th Jan 2013, 1:22 AM edit delete reply

ding good observation .. :D
wright1 8th Jan 2013, 3:52 PM edit delete reply
I would say Jet is a typical human-centrist of his time. He's young, and working in a cutting-edge field. I think he's capable of overcoming his prejudices in time; they just haven't been seriously challenged yet.

That said, Galli may be providing that challenge shortly. How he reacts to *that* will definitely be an acid test.
Centcomm 9th Jan 2013, 1:22 AM edit delete reply

for Galinas sake i hope she doesnt run her mouth too much it could get her in a lot of trouble..
Hornet 9th Jan 2013, 1:15 PM edit delete reply
Oooh can I play with your microcircuitry! Lol!!
Centcomm 9th Jan 2013, 2:01 PM edit delete reply

Centcomm 9th Jan 2013, 4:29 PM edit delete reply

I'm sorry to say, but this comic is pretty depressing. I may have to stop reading it.

I'll keep on with Datachasers, though, no matter what...
